Seeds and dried fruiting structures only of any horticultural crop (vegetable, flower plants and trees) which are suited or adapted for Minnesota are allowed in all classes.

Forest, tree, or shrub plant parts are allowed in classes 9-16 and 27-30 only.

White rice, sesame seeds, anise, and crown vetch are not allowed.

Common and noxious weed seeds or plant parts are not permitted in any class. This includes seeds and plant parts of plants listed on the Minnesota Department of Agriculture noxious weed list at https://www.mda.state.mn.us/plants-insects/minnesota-noxious-weed-list

For the official rules, go to www.mnstatefair.org/competitions/ag-hort-bee/crop-art-and-scarecrow. The Fair usually posts guidelines for the upcoming competition in the spring of each year. If you still have questions after reading the current rules on the Fair website, you can direct questions to competition@mnstatefair.org.
